“Maturity is measured in responsibility; not how much you are responsible for but how responsible you are.” – Temika
I thought I was grown until I realized I wasn’t. We often think we’ve grown until we realize we haven’t.
I found out I was irresponsible, thus immature, by way of a financial crisis. I Thank God He has our backs and has delivered us out of it, it’s lovely to be His child. However, salvation came after much enduring.
The decisions my husband and I made to figure our own life out, name dropping God on things he didn’t co-sign, landed us in a deficit. We thought we were pursuing God’s destiny for us but in actuality we were swimming in selfish ambition, ruled by mammon. We repented, realizing there was no one to blame, only accountability to take; we acted extremely foolishly, but we gained wisdom through it all. What’s a hardship with no lesson learned?
We still had to face the consequences of our actions and it was scary at first. Hit after hit we built up spiritual resilience and developed a spiritual mind. We’ve learned to rely solely on God and His promises, to be content in lack that we may be content in abundance, and to walk with the Lord daily. We had to humble ourselves, confront our fractured souls, and allow healing to take place.
What’s landed us in a new position is the grace of God and a decision not to have this lesson repeated. Que the question: God, what are you teaching me?
The answer: Be still and trust in the Lord, hope (place confidence) in Him alone! This looks like:
- Acknowledgement and awareness; invite Him into everything that has to do with you and talk with Him about it all as you walk this life out (be a friend to Jesus)
- Knowing your identity; we are sons, when you know who you are you know how to act (be) and your relationship with God is more fruitful
- Agreeing with the Lord; the truth makes us free and faith comes by hearing the word of God. The truth is Jesus and Jesus is the Word. Agree with what the Lord has said. Don’t know what He has said, read the scriptures and/or just ask Him! In agreement is obedience.
I’ve come to learn this walk doesn’t have to be difficult and unpleasant. That’s not what God intended. Jesus said “I’ve come that they may have life and that more abundantly” — that sounds like pleasure to me. Yes troubles may come but sweetness is there for those who would taste and see.
With love,
Temika
